Madera: The Program for Resource Efficient Communities (PREC) is also involved in applied building sciences research, such as the construction of houses built to very high energy-efficiency standards (HERS > 90). Faculty collaborating through PREC participated in the design and development of Madera, an 88-home for-profit community developed by GreenTrust, LLC on a wooded 44-acre site adjacent to the University of Florida campus in Gainesville, FL.

Baldwin Park: In September 2004, Glatting Jackson, an Orlando-based design and planning firm, invited PREC specialists to participate in a charrette and follow-up review of Baldwin Park in an effort to protect Lake Baldwin and Lake Susannah by implementing best design and management practices to minimize phosphate nutrient loading. Baldwin Park is a high profile, award-winning, infill redevelopment project in Winter Park, FL.
